Meet the Medium Rise Site Supervisor Licence Requirements Through RPL
Supervising medium-rise construction in QLD? These 7 units are your path to the QBCC Builder Medium Rise Site Supervisor Licence. Complete them through RPL, based on your experience.
Is RPL right for me?
To apply for the QBCC Builder – Medium Rise Site Supervisor Licence, you need to demonstrate competency in 7 specific units from the CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building). RPL lets you get those units assessed against your existing experience, without sitting through a full course.
If you’ve been working on medium-rise or low-rise building projects in a supervisory, foreman, or management capacity, there’s a good chance your experience already covers what these units require.Â
This is your pathway to the QBCC Builder Medium Rise Site Supervisor Licence.
Completing these 7 units is the minimum technical requirement to apply for your QBCC Builder – Medium Rise Site Supervisor Licence in Queensland. This licence authorises you to supervise building work up to 3 storeys, including Class 1 and Class 10 buildings and non-structural work on any building regardless of class. RPL assesses that experience against the national standard and fills any gaps through targeted training.
What your statement of attainment unlocks
The 7 units covered in this course form the technical qualification required to apply for the QBCC Builder Medium Rise Site Supervisor Licence. Here’s what that gives you:
- Meet the QBCC technical requirement: complete the minimum qualification needed to apply for your Builder Medium Rise Site Supervisor Licence with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission
- Supervise a broader scope of work: the Builder Medium Rise licence covers Class 1 and Class 10 buildings, buildings up to 3 storeys (excluding Type A construction on Classes 4–9), and non-structural work on any building regardless of size or classification
- Pathway to a Medium Rise contractor licence: holding a Site Supervisor licence is a recognised stepping stone toward applying for the full Builder – Medium Rise contractor licence
- Progress from Low Rise: if you already hold a Low Rise Site Supervisor Licence, this is your next level up, expanding the scope of projects you can legally supervise
- Stay compliant: lawfully supervise medium-rise building work in Queensland as an employee of a QBCC-licensed contractor
Is RPL a real qualification?
Yes. The Statement of Attainment issued on completion of these 7 units is issued by Everthought Education (RTO 32438) and is formally recognised by the Queensland Building and Construction Commission as meeting the technical qualification requirement for the Builder Medium Rise Site Supervisor Licence.
These units are from the CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) and are assessed against the same competency standards as any other delivery method. RPL is a recognised assessment pathway under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

It’s a QBCC licence that authorises you to supervise building work up to 3 storeys in Queensland, including Class 1 and Class 10 buildings and non-structural work on any building regardless of class. It sits between the Low Rise and Open Site Supervisor licence classes.
The three licence classes cover different scopes of work. Low Rise covers Class 1 and 10 buildings, and Classes 2–9 buildings up to 2 storeys and no more than 2,000 m², excluding Type A and Type B construction. Medium Rise extends to buildings up to 3 storeys, excluding Type A construction. Open covers all classes of buildings including large, high-rise and complex structures. Each requires different technical qualifications.
RPL stands for Recognition of Prior Learning. It’s a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills and knowledge you’ve built through real work experience and matches them against the required competency standards. Where your experience covers the requirements, you don’t need to sit through additional training.
Evidence can include project records, employment references, letters from licensed builders or supervisors, and documentation demonstrating your involvement in building projects. We’ll guide you through the specifics once we understand your background.
A Site Supervisor licence allows you to supervise building work as an employee of a licensed contractor. You cannot personally enter into contracts with property owners or developers. A contractor licence enables you to run your own building business. The Site Supervisor licence is a recognised stepping stone toward the contractor licence.
Possibly. If your evidence doesn’t fully cover a particular unit’s requirements, targeted gap training will be arranged for that unit only. You won’t repeat anything you’ve already demonstrated competency in.
