Already working in building? Get your Cert IV through RPL.
If you’ve got the experience, RPL could get you a nationally recognised CPC40120Â Certificate IV in Building and Construction, without going back to a classroom.
Is RPL right for me?
RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) is a formal assessment process that recognises the skills and knowledge you’ve built through real work in the building industry. If you’ve been supervising sites, planning construction work, and applying building codes on the job, there’s a good chance RPL could work for you.
Instead of sitting through training you’ve already lived, RPL lets you demonstrate what you know, and fills in any gaps along the way. It’s the most practical path to getting qualified.
Looking to get your builder’s licence?
Depending on your state and the class of licence you’re after, the Certificate IV in Building and Construction may be a recognised qualification for your builder’s licence application. Speak to one of our advisors and we’ll help you understand what applies to your situation.
What your Cert IV unlocks
The Certificate IV in Building and Construction is the foundational trade qualification for anyone working in building, and the credential that opens doors to supervisory roles, licences, and higher-level study. Here’s what it gives you:
- Builder’s licence eligibility:Â a recognised qualification for domestic and low rise builder licence applications in multiple states
- Step into supervisory roles:Â move into Builder, Site Supervisor, and Construction Manager positions with a formal qualification behind you
- Higher earning potential:Â qualified builders and site supervisors earn an average of $105,000 per year in Australia
- Work across residential and commercial builds:Â the qualification covers both, giving you broader opportunities
- Pathway to further study:Â a direct stepping stone to the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) and beyond
- Prove what you already know:Â your on-site skills get formally assessed and recognised against the national standard
Completing the qualification through RPL means you skip unnecessary training and get straight to the credential that matters.
Is RPL a real qualification?
Yes. The CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction issued through RPL is the same nationally accredited qualification as one completed through traditional study.
The certificate itself does not state that it was completed via RPL. It carries the same weight with licensing bodies, employers, and government agencies across Australia. RPL is a recognised assessment pathway under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), offered by Everthought Education as a registered training organisation (RTO 32438).
What changes is the process, not the outcome. Your existing skills and experience are assessed against the competency standards. Where gaps exist, targeted training fills them in.
