Is RPL right for me?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that recognises the skills and knowledge you’ve built through real work experience. Instead of sitting in a classroom repeating things you already know, you’re assessed on what you can actually do.

If you’ve been working in construction management, running sites, managing teams, overseeing budgets, or coordinating contractors, and you don’t yet hold a formal diploma, RPL is likely the most practical way to get qualified.

What your Diploma unlocks

A CPC50320 Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) is more than just a piece of paper. It’s the key qualification that opens the door to senior roles and licences across the industry. Here’s what it gives you:

  • Builder’s licence eligibility: a formal requirement in most Australian states to legally operate as a registered builder
  • Step into senior roles: take on Construction Manager, Building Project Manager, and Site Manager positions with confidence
  • Higher earning potential: get significantly higher rates with a nationally recognised Diploma
  • Tender for larger projects: unlock eligibility to bid on commercial and medium-rise construction contracts
  • Tertiary pathways: may be eligible for credit towards a degree or higher qualification
  • Prove what you already know: your skills get formally recognised against the national standard

Completing the Diploma through RPL means you skip unnecessary training and get straight to the credential that matters.

Yes. The CPC50320 Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) issued through RPL is exactly the same nationally accredited qualification as one completed through traditional study.

The certificate itself does not state that it was completed via RPL. It carries the same weight with licensing bodies, employers, and government agencies across Australia. RPL is a recognised pathway under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and is offered by Everthought Education as a registered training organisation (RTO 32438).

What changes is the process, not the outcome. Instead of completing coursework from scratch, your existing skills and experience are assessed against the competency standards. Where gaps exist, targeted training fills them in.

The CPC50320 Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) consists of 15 units of competency: 8 core units and 7 elective units.

Frequently asked questions

If you still have questions, our team will be happy to help.

What is RPL?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process under Australia’s national training system. It allows people with real work experience to earn a nationally recognised qualification without completing a full course or apprenticeship. Your existing skills are assessed against the requirements of the qualification.

How long does RPL take?

Generally a few weeks to a couple of months, depending on how quickly you can gather your evidence. It’s significantly faster than completing a full qualification from scratch.

What are the entry requirements?

You’ll need 3+ years of demonstrated experience working in a construction management or supervisory role, plus a minimum of two work referrals from qualified builders. We’ll assess your background during the initial chat to confirm you’re on track.

What evidence do I need to provide?

Evidence can include photos of completed projects, payslips, contracts, employment references, site records, reports you’ve produced, or letters from builders or supervisors you’ve worked with. We’ll walk you through exactly what you need once we understand your work history.

Is my Diploma the same as one done through traditional study?

Yes. Your CPC50320 Diploma certificate is nationally accredited and carries the same value with licensing boards, government bodies, and employers regardless of whether it was completed via RPL or standard coursework.

Will I need to complete gap training?

Possibly. If our assessors identify areas where your evidence doesn’t fully cover the required competencies.
